OFFICIAL ENGLISH TESTS: CAE (Certificate of Advanced English)

The Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) is the advanced general English exam provided by the University of Cambridge as part of ESOL.

The exam is comprised of 5 parts:

Reading
Writing
Use of English
Listening
Speaking

Each of the above parts carries 1/5 (20%) of the total marks. There are three pass grades (A, B and C) and certificates are awarded to candidates who achieve these grades. Those who recieve lower grades (D,E) do not pass, and therefore do not receive a certificate.

Like all the other Cambridge exams, once the exam is passed the qualification never expires. CAE is considered to be very valuable, especially for international students applying to British universities, as it is the required English certificate.
