US CITIES: Vocabulary builder for ESL students: BALTIMORE, MD

Here's a new way to learn and practice English: We've developed a series of exercises based on descriptions of some of the most famous American cities. Here's a description of Baltimore, MD. Read it and choose the right word for each blank space :) Good luck!

Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland and one of the largest metropolitan (areas/zones) on the American East Coast. The port city is very old, and has some very beautiful (architecture/construction), some of which is unfortunately run- (away/down). Parts of the city have been beautifully (redone/redeveloped). The (primal/primary) example of this is the Inner Harbor - the central area which now provides shopping, hotels, restaurants and (sightsee/sightseeing) options. Its water taxi service is a good way to view the city's (impressed/impressive) seafront (landscape/skyline).

Don't miss the great local (seafood/meat) - especially the famous crab cakes. Baltimore is home to Johns Hopkins University, one of the best and most famous (university/universities) in the country. Baltimoreans have a unique accent - something between a Southern drawl and a New York City accent.
