US CITIES: Vocabulary practice for ESL students: DALLAS, TX

Here's a new way to learn and practice English: We've developed a series of exercises based on descriptions of some of the most famous American cities. Here's a description of Dallas, TX. Read it and choose the right word for each blank space :) Good luck!

Dallas is the third-largest city in the state of Texas and the ninth-largest in the United States. It is the core of the largest inland metropolitan area in the United States and (misses/lacks) any real link to the sea. Dallas' (promise/prominence) comes from its historical (important/importance) as a center for the oil and cotton (industry/industries), its position along numerous railroad lines, and its (power/powerful) industrial and financial tycoons. The city has many (vibrating/vibrant) communities and (electric/eclectic) neighborhoods. It also has a lot of faceless neighborhoods and (stripe/strip) -mall culture, mainly due to its (spreading/sprawl). The Dallas metro area has more shopping (areas/centers) per capita than any other United States city.
