US CITIES: Vocabulary practice for ESL students: INDIANAPOLIS, IN

Indianapolis, the capital city of the state of Indiana, is not very cosmopolitan. It is a (fair/fairly) "American" city, with a strong sports reputation - perhaps most famous for (host/hosting) the Indianapolis 500 (car/cars) race. Several (initials/initiatives) have been introduced by the Indianapolis city (government/governing) in (recent/recently) years to increase the city's appeal as a (destiny/destination) for arts and culture. Despite these efforts and the visual changes (in/for) the better over the past 10 years, the city (remains/retains) pretty sedate. Until the late 1990s, Indianapolis was considered to be one of the most conservative metropolitan areas in the country but this trend is (receding/reversing) .
