US CITIES: Vocabulary practice for ESL students: KANSAS CITY, MO

Here's a new way to learn and practice English: We've developed a series of exercises based on descriptions of some of the most famous American cities. Here's a description of Kansas City, MO. Read it and choose the right word for each blank space :) Good luck!

Kansas City is a city in the US state of Missouri situated at the (joining/junction) of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers. The city's (tapped/tap) water was recently (decided/rated) the cleanest (between/among) the 50 largest cities in the United States, containing no detectable impurities. It is officially nicknamed the City of Fountains, with over 200 installations, ranking second in the world and (exceeded/accessed) only by Rome. Kansas City is well-known for its (spaced/spacious) parkways and numerous parks. Unfortunately, Kansas City is not all about clean water, parks, and fountains - it has a fairly high crime (level/rate) and a good share of (impoverished/empowered), neglected neighborhoods. In (goal/order) to improve the situation, the downtown area is currently (undergoing/undertaking) major redevelopment.
