US CITIES: English vocabulary and grammar practice: MEMPHIS, TN

Here's a new way to learn and practice English: We've developed a series of exercises based on descriptions of some of the most famous American cities. Here's a description of Memphis, TN. Read it and choose the right word for each blank space :) Good luck!

Memphis is the largest city in the state of Tennessee and the second largest in the southeastern region. Memphis is well known for its (cultured/cultural) contributions to the (identical/identity) of the American South, including musical and culinary (offers/offerings). Many notable blues musicians (rose/grew) up in and around Memphis (and nearby northern Mississippi), and performed there (regularly/regular) from the early 1900s onward. It is also the (birth/birthplace) of rock & roll music, where many of the rock & roll legends (like Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley) started their careers. In addition to a (rich/wealthy) musical heritage, Memphis also boasts a long culinary legacy (controlled/dominated) by regional barbeque. These days Memphis is a laid- (down/back) place that might be not doing too well economically, but has lots of atmosphere and regional (taste/flavor).
