US CITIES: English vocabulary and grammar practice: PHOENIX, AZ

Here's a new way to learn and practice English: We've developed a series of exercises based on descriptions of some of the most famous American cities. Here's a description of Phoenix, AZ. Read it and choose the right word for each blank space :) Good luck!

Phoenix is the capital and the most populous city of the state of Arizona. Big and (sprawling/crawling), Phoenix has an arid climate, which is (satirized/characterized) by some of the hottest (season/seasonal) temperatures experienced by any large city. In fact, out of the world's large (urban/urbane) areas, only some cities around the Persian Gulf, such as Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Baghdad, Iraq, have higher average summer temperatures. Due to the warm (climate/atmosphere) in winter, Phoenix (benefits/values) greatly (in/from) seasonal tourism and recreation, and has a particularly vibrant golf (field/industry). The military has a significant (presents/presence) in Phoenix with Luke Air Force Base located in the western (suburban/suburbs). Phoenix is also a popular filming location for various media.
