IELTS has no separate vocabulary test. Vocabulary is assessed in all four skills.
Speaking
• Scored as Lexical Resource (25%)
• Examiners check range, accuracy, and paraphrasing
• Higher bands use precise, natural vocabulary
Writing
• Vocabulary = Lexical Resource (25%)
• Looks at word choice, collocations, and avoiding repetition
• Incorrect “advanced” words lower your score
Reading
• Tests understanding of vocabulary in context
• You must recognize synonyms and paraphrases
Listening
• Tests recognition of spoken words and paraphrases
• Answers often use different wording than the audio
