FUTURE SIMPLE EXERCISE 1 (ESL)

Change each SIMPLE PAST sentence into a SIMPLE FUTURE sentence.
Example: I watched this movie. → I will watch this movie.


1. I went to school. → I to school.

2. We finished our test. → We our test.

3. She washed the dishes. → She the dishes.

4. George drank some water. → George some water.

5. We bought a new pen. → We a new pen.

6. I cleaned my room. → I my room.

7. The cat ate. → The cat .

8. I wrote her an email. → I her an email.

9. Thomas slept for six hours. → Thomas for six hours.

10. Patricia ran to the store. → Patricia to the store.

11. I baked a cake for my mother. → I a cake for my mother.

12. We worked for three hours. → We for three hours.

13. She asked her teacher about the test. → She her teacher about the test.

14. They gave some money to the homeless man. → They some money to the homeless man.

15. I found five dollars. → I five dollars.

16. Frank left early. → Frank early.

17. Rebecca took her grandmother to the park. → Rebecca her grandmother to the park.

18. I got a promotion at work. → I a promotion at work.

19. Betty thought about this. → Betty about this.

20. We did our English exercises. → We our English exercises.

The future simple is not the only way to speak about the future in English. Here's an outline of the main English tenses and structures used to talk about the future, with uses and examples.

1. Will + base verb (FUTURE SIMPLE)
Form: will + infinitive
Example: I will call you later.
Uses: Instant decisions, promises, offers and requests, predictions based on opinion (not evidence)
Keywords: think, believe, probably, maybe

2. Going to + base verb
Form: am/is/are + going to + infinitive
Example: She is going to start a new job.
Uses: Plans or intentions already decided, predictions based on present evidence
Keywords: look at, planned, decided

3. Present continuous (future meaning)
Form: am/is/are + verb-ing
Example: We're meeting the client tomorrow.
Uses: Fixed arrangements (often with time/place mentioned), personal schedules
Keywords: tomorrow, next week, at 5 p.m.

4. Present simple (future meaning)
Form: base verb / third person -s
Example: The train leaves at 7:30.
Uses: Timetables and schedules, official or fixed events
Common with: transport, classes, events
