Grammar review
The present simple — yes/no questions
Yes/no questions are answered with a simple
yes or
no — there's no question word like
what or
where. They start directly with
Do or
Does.
Word order:
Do/Does +
subject +
base verb + …?
“Do you like coffee?”
“Does she work here?”
Do vs. does:
• I/you/we/they →
Do:
“Do they live nearby?”
• he/she/it →
Does:
“Does it rain a lot here?”
Short answers:
Yes/no questions are usually answered with a short answer, not a full sentence.
“Do you like coffee?” →
“Yes, I do.” /
“No, I don't.”
“Does she work here?” →
“Yes, she does.” /
“No, she doesn't.”
This is the last piece of the present simple puzzle. See also
