ONLINE ENGLISH GRAMMAR QUIZ
topic: Articles 1 The/A/An | level: Intermediate

Fill in each blank space with the proper article: a, an, or the.

I went to airport at 6:00 AM yesterday. I had to catch flight to Paris. The lines at airport were very long, so I had to wait long time. Once plane took off I tried to get some sleep but I couldn't. Then I ate pretty good meal, rare occurrence on airplanes! Later, I spoke to one of flight attendants for while. She was pretty. She told me that pilot of airplane was French. I managed to fall asleep for about hour. After I woke up, I felt refreshed. I ordered drink, then another. Generally, it was pretty smooth flight.

grammar notes
There are two kinds of articles in the English language: definite and indefinite. The definite article (the) can be singular or plural. The indefinite article (a or an) is singular, and cannot be used with a plural noun.

This can be a fairly difficult topic for ESL students, but there are many sites that can clarify it for you :) If you'd like more information about articles (definite and indefinite) and their usage, check out the Use and Non-Use of Articles (Purdue University) page.
