They're, their, and there are homophones — identical in pronunciation but completely different in meaning and function. Mixing them up is one of the most common writing errors in English.



Grammar review They’re / Their / There

THEY’RE = contraction of they + are
______ coming to the party. (= They are coming.)
Test: Can you replace it with "they are"? If yes → use the contraction.

THEIR = possessive adjective (belonging to them)
I love ______ house.  /  ______ dog is friendly.
Test: Can you replace it with "his" or "her"? If yes → use the possessive.

THERE = refers to a place, or used in there is / there are constructions
Put it over ______.  /  ______ is a problem.
Test: Does it indicate a location or introduce existence? If yes → use this form.
