Adverbs of manner, in more sentence positions
Most of these adverbs still end in -ly and tell you how something happens: carefully, patiently, gently.
Try asking "how?" about the verb in each sentence. The word that answers the question is your adverb.
• She handled the situation calmly. (How did she handle it? Calmly.)
• He closed the door gently. (How did he close it? Gently.)
An adverb can sit right after the verb, or after the verb's object, so don't assume it's always the very next word.
