Order of Adjectives Exercise 2

level: Intermediate (B1/B2)

A second adjective order exercise with a fresh set of adjective pairs. If you haven't done exercise 1 yet, start there for the full rule and sequence.

Grammar review Adjective order — reminder and edge cases

The standard order: Opinion → Size → Age → Shape → Colour → Origin → Material → Purpose

Age before colour: age adjectives like new and old come before colour adjectives.
Shape before material: shape adjectives precede material adjectives.
Size before colour: size adjectives come before colour adjectives.
Colour before origin: colour adjectives precede nationality/origin adjectives.

Special case — determiners:
Words like past, last, next, first act as determiners and always come before descriptive adjectives, regardless of the standard sequence.
the last three days / the next important meeting

Tip: When unsure, say both orders aloud. Native speakers will almost always prefer one — that instinctive preference follows the rule.
