This exercise practises the most common and useful combinations in context.
ABOUT PHRASAL VERBS WITH COME
Come is one of the most productive verbs for phrasal combinations in English — it pairs with almost every common particle. The core meaning of movement or arrival runs through many combinations, but come also generates a rich set of figurative uses.
A few patterns worth noting:
• Come back means to return (literal or figurative).
• Come out can mean to be published, to become publicly known, or to result in a particular way.
• Come off means to succeed or to detach from something.
• Come in means to enter, or to become available/relevant.
At this level, the challenge is often that the same base verb and particle can combine in more than one way depending on context, so reading the whole sentence carefully before choosing is essential.
